NEW DELHI: A death threat to Prime Minister Narendra Modi has been received directly by the Delhi Police Commissioner, months after a same type of threat was alarmed by the Pune police claiming that a plot to assassinate PM Modi in a “Rajiv Gandhi-type incident” during one of his roadshows had been revealed in a letter seized from a suspected Maoist in June this year.
The current threatened message has been sent to the Delhi Police Commissioner’s e-mail id. In this mail of one line 2019 has been mentioned, as well as the day and month.
Police say that this mail has been sent from any district of Assam. After getting the mail, the police has started investigation.
A threat was also felt during the road shows PM Modi made this year following which, the home ministry has put out rules in which no one can come too close to PM Modi, not even ministers and officers, if not cleared by his special security.
Maoist-hit states like Chhattisgarh, Jharkhand, Madhya Pradesh, Odisha, West Bengal were termed sensitive by the ministry and the police chiefs of these states were already told to be extra careful when the prime minister visits their states, an official said.
