TDP MLA Kidari Sarveswara Rao, Ex-MLA Siveri Soma Shot Dead By Maoists In Araku

HYDERABAD: In a shocking development, tribal Telugu Desam Party MLA Kidari Sarveswara Rao and former TDP MLA Siveri Soma have been killed by Naxals at Araku Valley, in Visakhapatnam, Andhra Pradesh. They were shot down by the outlawed maoists. Both of them including Rao’s personal attendant, died on the spot.

Araku Valley is known as the operational base of Maoist leader Akkiraju Haragopal, alias RK.

Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh Nara Chandrababu Naidu expressed shock over the incident and condemned the attack.

The incident took place during the Maoists weekly celebrations of their party CPI Maoists formation day September 21. Maoists gave a call to celebrate it as weekly celebrations till September 27.

Over 50 maoists, including many women, are said to have participated in the armed attack on the MLA.

Naxals allegedly stopped the vehicle in which the politicians were travelling and shot them at point blank range. After the matter was reported, the police rushed to spot and found the bullet-ridden bodies of the current, former MLA lying in a pool of blood.

Sarveswara Rao was reported to be on the Naxal hit-list.

According to sources, Kidari Sarveswara Rao, who elected as Araku MLA on the ticket of YSRCP party had later joined TDP. He along with another former MLA Soma of same constituency and other henchmen were going to Dumbriguda mandal when the incident took place.

Kidari Sarveswara Rao, the former MLC of Congress, has been facing severe allegations of illegal mining activity in the agency area. He was allegedly warned by the Maoists earlier for supporting the Bauxite mining.

Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu himself is under the ‘Z plus’ category protection after he survived a claymore mine attack by Naxals on October 1, 2003 in Tirupati.
