Delhi Cop’s Son Thrashes Woman And Friend Films, Arrested After Rajnath Singh Order Action

NEW DELHI: Days after the video of a woman being severely beaten by a man went viral on social media, a Delhi policeman’s son was arrested on Friday and charged with rape and criminal intimidation in two separate cases.

Home Minister Rajnath Singh today ordered Delhi Police Commissioner Amulya Patnaik to take action.

Following this, Rohit Singh Tomar, the son of a Delhi police officer posted in the narcotics division, was arrested. In the clip, he is seen dragging the woman around by her hair, throwing her to the ground, kicking and slapping her and using his knees and elbows to try and inflict maximum pain.

The home minister expressed his concern on Twitter on Friday and said he spoke to the Delhi Police Commissioner over the matter.

“The video of a girl being brutally beaten up by a young man has come to my knowledge. I have spoken to the Delhi Police Commissioner (Amulya Patnaik) on the phone and asked him to take necessary action”, he tweeted.

Two cases against the accused have been registered, one of criminal intimidation and molestation and the other of rape, based on the version of two women, police officials were quoted as saying by PTI.

The accused was arrested under section 376 (Punishment for rape), 323 (Punishment for voluntarily causing hurt) and 354 (Assault or criminal force to woman with intent to outrage her modesty) of IPC.

The first case was registered on Thursday following a complaint by the accused’s woman friend alleging that he showed her a video in which he could be seen thrashing a woman. She alleged that she was threatened with the same kind of treatment if she didn’t follow his instructions.

The second case was registered at a different police station after another woman, the one seen in the video, approached the police on Friday and alleged that the accused called her at his friend’s office on September 2 and raped her.

The person recording the video is heard asking “Rohit, stop it…Enough!” But neither this friend nor anyone else physically stops him.

The footage is believed to have been taken at a call centre in Delhi’s Uttam Nagar on September 2.
