Former PM Atal Bihari Vajpayee Dies At 93 : National Mourning Declared for 7 days : Tricolor To Fly Half Mast

Former prime minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee and BJP stalwart passed away at the All India Institute of Medical Sciences in the national capital on Thursday. He was 93. Vajpayee was admitted to the AIIMS with a kidney tract infection and chest congestion on June 11.

Vajpayee suffered pneumonia and multi-organ failure, including kidney failure. He was put on ECMO support on the last day.

He was three-time Prime Minister of India and one of the country’s most respected politicians. He was the first Indian prime minister not belonging to the Indian National Congress to serve a full five-year term.

Vajpayee was elected nine times to the Lok Sabha, twice to the Rajya Sabha and served as the Prime Minister of India for three terms; 1996, 1998, 1999–2004.

It is with profound grief that we inform about the sad demise of former Prime Minister of India, Shri Atal Bihari Vajpayee at 05:05 pm on 16.08.2018.

Unfortunately, his condition deteriorated over the last 36 hours and he was put on life support systems. Despite the best of efforts, we have lost him today.

National Mourning Declared:

The government has announced 7-day national mourning from August 16 to August 22 after Atal Bihari Vajpayee’s death. The flag will fly half-mast and the former prime minister will be accorded a state funeral.

Many State Goverment declared 7 day state mourning

The Bihar state government, Madhya Pradesh Government, Jharkhand Government declared seven-day state mourning and public holiday tomorrow, on 17 August 2018.

All schools, colleges and government offices will remain closed on August 17 in states like Uttar Pradesh, Delhi, Gujarat, Madhya Pradesh, Odisha, Punjab, Bihar, Jharkhand, Haryana, Telangana, Tamil Nadu and Karnataka.

Pakistan condoles Vajpayee’s demise

The Pakistani government condoled the death of former prime minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee. “We have learnt with sadness the passing away of Atal Bihari Vajpayee former Prime Minister of India, who was undergoing treatment in a hospital in New Delhi.”

“He was a renowned statesman who contributed to bringing a change in India-Pakistan relations and remained key supporter of SAARC and regional cooperation for development. The Pakistan government and people extend their heartfelt condolences to his family and to government and the people of India.”

Speaking to reporters, Venkaiah Naidu told, “He brought connectivity revolution in the country. For five years, he provided a stable government. He was a true Indian. It’s a big loss,” he said. “The nation pays homage to the great son of this country.”

Atal Bihari Vajpayee was honoured by Padma Vibhushan in 1992 and Bharat Ratna in 2015.

His body will be taken to the BJP office tomorrow, where the public can pay homage, followed by cremation before sun sets, most likely at Ekta Sthal.
