Good news for the movie lovers of Andhra Pradesh. From now on they can take home food, soft drinks inside multiplexes. The District Consumer Disputes Redressal Forum (DCDRF) of Vijayawada has allowed this move.
The decision has been passed on the complaint made by Vijaywada Consumer Guidance Society and 5 workers. They complained of selling food and drink items in double priced inside multiplexes. The Consumer Forum has ordered multiplexes to sell all the products at market rates or to raise prices slightly from the market rate. Also ordered to provide drinking water free of cost.
Before Andhra Pradesh, the Maharashtra government had allowed people to take home food in cinemas. From 1 August, these rules have been implemented. The Maharashtra government had given a clear direction that there should be no difference in the rate of food items sold outside and inside the multiplex in the state.
On Wednesday, the Bombay High Court rebuked multiplex owners during a hearing of the petition. It said that the family and children are being forced to eat junk food by stopping outside food. They are prevented from eating healthy food. Justice More asked, “If people can be permitted to carry home food inside an aircraft then why not to theatres?“
