Google remembers Ustad Bismillah Khan via its Doodle

Google has given a tribute by making a doodle on the occasion of 102th birthday of legendary Shehanie Maestro Ustad Bismillah Khan. This doodle made on Google’s homepage was created by Vijay Krishna, the artist of Chennai. Ustad Bismillah Khan does not need any introduction. He gave a new look to Shehanai playing in the country and the world.

In Google doodle, Ustad Bismillah Khan has been shown wearing a white dress, clarinet ringing. In which there is a pattern in a geometric style and Google is written. There is a tune from their clarinet which is being heard around the world.

Story behind Ustad’s name

Bismillah Khan was born on March 21, 1916. There is a unique story behind their name too. It is said that at the time of his birth his grandfather thanked Allah and said ‘Bismillah’ and his name was Bismillah.

At the very young age, he had learned many such disciplines like Thumri, Chhati, Kajari and Swani. He later studied Khayyal music and achieved mastery in many raga.

Bharat Ratna Bismillah Khan

In 2001, he became the third classical music person to receive the highest honor of Bharat Ratna in 2001. He was honored with Padma Bhushan in 1968, Padma Vibhushan in 1980 and Padma Shri in 1961. Ustad started the clarinet playing at public places at the age of 14. However, in 1937, at the Indian Music Conference in Kolkata, he received recognition from across the country by his performance. In 1938, the start of India Radio in Lucknow proved to be a big break for him. After this, his clarinet could often be heard on the radio. Khan also performed at the Edinburgh Music Festival, which gave him fame in the world.

After independence, he became the first Indian clarinetist to play the clarinet in front of such people as Mahatma Gandhi and Jawaharlal Nehru. He died on August 21, 2006.
