Jean-Sebastien Giguere comments: Avs goalie calls out teammates, travel plans

Colorado Avalanche goaltender Jean-Sebastien Giguere does not care about any of his teammates’ vacation plans. At least, not if they involve Las Vegas.

Following Colorado’s 3-1 loss against the Calgary Flames on Monday night, Giguere emphatically expressed that the culture in the Avalanche locker room needs to change. In doing so, the 35-year-old goaltender stated that some of his teammates are more concerned about their post-season plans than winning games.

Mind you, those post-season plans should not be mistaken for postseason plans, as the Avalanche enter competition on Tuesday night as the NHL’s worst team.

Combine that with the team’s loss against Calgary (who had dropped 13-consecutive road games) and you have a quote that is being run by every hockey outlet under the sun, via the Denver Post:

“Some guys are more worried about their Vegas trip at the end of the season than playing the games, than playing every minute of the games. Quite frankly, I don’t care about your Vegas trip right now.”

Giguere doesn’t think the team’s game night performance is the only problem. He goes onto to question Colorado’s preparation in practice, as well as the moral in the dressing room:

“And it’s just embarrassing, the way we, you know, the energy we have in the room and the way we approach practices and the way we approach this game. It’s not how you’re going to win any games in this league. I mean, this is a team (Calgary) that we can beat if we set our minds to it, and every day is the same story.”

Some had already questioned whether head coach Joe Sacco might be nearing the end of his tenure as the team’s head coach.

This statement, will likely continue to fan those flames.

Ultimately, things have been going poorly in Colorado for a few years now and it sounds as though the team needs to start making some changes, whether it’s with the guy behind the bench or the players on it.
